Step 2: Gaining an understanding of the problem through research
Having a clear problem statement helped to focus my research. I allocated myself twenty minutes to use the internet and books to obtain the information on the identified problem.
Based on my previous knowledge and understandings I generated research questions to identify the possum and investigated the needs of that particular species of possum (Brushtail possum). During this process I gained new knowledge and understandings and more questions were generated. Completing the investigation phase of the design process was a vital step in being able to generate design ideas to solve the problem.
Generate questions to research:
What kind of possum is it?
How can we live safely with it?
Why is the possum wanting to live in the roof?
What do they look like?
How can I help?
How can I live safely with it?
Investigating the possums needs
When are they awake?
Where do possums like to live?
What does the possum need to be safe?
What do they eat?
Are there any threats to their survival?
Are possums protected?
